At Lift Green Way, we feel that homework is an essential part of your child's educational experience. We try not to overload children with too much homework and we really appreciate your support in helping your child to complete it. Along with homework, we would also like to thank parents for supporting your child's reading regularly, along with their spellings and phonics.
To help us give your child the very best education, please ensure that any homework, reading books or spellings are completed each week and that you regularly share books with your child.
Our policy is available here.
We provide the children with homework for a number of reasons:
All classes will be given weekly homework on a FRIDAY and it should be returned to school by the following WEDNESDAY.
Weekly homework tasks or activities will be topic-based and will be explained and discussed in class before going home. There should be a clear reminder from the teacher about what is expected.
Each child has a homework book in which the majority of tasks are kept. This should be marked weekly. We expect the same standards of presentation of homework as we set in school.
At the beginning of each half-term a home-school project will be set. This will provide an opportunity for parents and their children to work together. These projects will be collected and judged in the final week of each half term. They may be used as part of the parental involvement days.
Children are actively encouraged to engage with homework tasks and are rewarded for completing homework. They are not punished if they fail to complete the work. However, teachers should keep a discreet homework log and parents should be contacted if any child is consistently failing to return homework. Children are encouraged to discuss any problems they are having with their homework with their class teacher.
Reading books are sent home regularly and when returned to school should be replaced with a new reading book. Spellings are sent home weekly and are linked to the Read Write Inc. Spelling Programme.
There are times when additional homework may be provided at the discretion of individual class teachers, for example, in the weeks prior to SATs tests, the Year 6 pupils will be given additional revision work.
